Extended Search For Injured ATV Rider
Sat. Feb 7th 2009

First Responders and Firefighters from George Hildebran Fire Rescue were dispatched for a report of a person injured and lost after a severe ATV accident in a remote area of George Hildebran. Rescue 734 and personnel arrived at the intersection of Old Laurel Rd and Byrd Farm Rd and began the process of searching for the missing patient. The sub-freezing temperatures and the difficult terrain made the urgency of the search even more important. Periodically the patient would call 911 from a cell phone and report where he thought he was, EOC continually instructed the patient to remain in one area but he refused. Nearly thirty minutes after dispatch the patient was located near Byrd Farm Rd. First Responders and EMS began patient care and discovered the severity of his injuries and requested a Med Center Air helicopter for immediate transport of the patient to a trauma center. Just as the patient was located GHFR was dispatched to a MVA on Miller Bridge Rd., with the patient being located 734 left the scene and responded to the MVA. Engine 731 responded to the scene and established a landing zone. Medical personnel assisted in loading the patient into the air unit for transport to CMC Charlotte. The remaining GHFR personnel cleared the scene and responded to the MVA.
